About a year ago, I upgraded my 2010 MBP with a 128gb OCZ SSD from OWC and bought an optibay and a 500gb spinning drive.

A year later, the 500gb spinning drive has died and so I've bought a new one, and decided to format-reinstall and restore.

I installed SL and then tried to use the migration assistant to restore all my files. However. migration assistant only can transfer files to the HD in which OSX is installed (my 128 ssd) and so I cannot fit all my 600GB worth of files in there.

I've tried doing a restoration of my files separately using time machine, but for some reason the permissions on my home folders are wrong and my mac cannot access them.

I've been moving files back and forth but frankly I am at a loss as to how to proceed. I thought this would be easy.

Is there a guide for something like this?
