Hi,

Sorry for asking a question thats undoubtedly been asked 100's of times before.

To cut a long story short, my mothers iPad Air 2 is no longer playing ball when it comes to software updates. It just gets stuck on "verfying update" for eternity. I have tried basically everything except for the full restore using iTunes. She doesn't have a computer with iTunes to restore it, so I am going to do it with my Macbook. The question I have is when i restore it, is it going to try and setup the iPad as if it is mine, linked to my Apple account? I have already done a backup of all her data using her iCloud account, I just want to be sure that when the restore process is complete from iTunes it will just be a case of signing in to her Apple ID on the iPad and downloading the backup.

iPad Air 2 can be setup without logging into any Apple ID. Go with that route and do a reset afterwards with her Apple ID. Specifically, you try to restore her iPad using your mac. If successful, go through the setup process without logging into any Apple ID. Once done, reset again and login using her Apple ID.

So you're saying its completely fine to just plug it in to my mac and hit restore and let it do its thing?

Sorry just create a new user account on your Mac with your mom’s name and sync and backup there. You can keep the user on your mac for later on case you ever need more troubleshooting.

Users should be kept separate on any computer. Not saying it’s gonna be a huge problem but multi user systems like macOS are in place for a reason.

Exactly.

Yeah, go for it! :)

This post reminds me how annoying and intrusive windows 10 wants user to use online account, while some apple users (no offence here, OP) don’t realise setting up an iPhone without login into Apple ID is possible.
