Have my 13" MBP setup just how I like, but I will be getting the refreshed Air when it arrives.

Can I restore files and folders from a time machine backup and have it not complain about different hardware?

Just trying to see how smooth the transition will be.

But the Time Machine procedure requires a Leopard/Snow Leopard DISC. Lion doesn't have a disc.

Ok, so lets say I want to get my wife a new Mini. She currently has a 2010 Mini. I make a TM backup. Get the new Mini and just use Migration Assistant to restore that TM backup.

And that will move all her programs, photos, etc over? Will it move a VM using Fusion over? What about a bootcamp install of Win 7?

I feel like Time Machine works in two ways. One is data migration, so applications and data.

The other is a full image, which requires the same hardware on 2 machines. So no I don't think it would take the Windows with you, but I could be wrong.
