Restoring to fix a problem, question

I'm sure this answer is out there somewhere, but I just can't find it.

I am having weird issues with my iPhone 6 (including having one app that refuses to install) so I decided I am going to do a clean restore of the phone. My question is, can I restore from backup once I erase everything? Or do I need to set it up as a new one and then resync all my apps and music?

Setting up as new would make for a cleaner install. Restoring an existing backup might restore your problem.
