Restoring unlocked iPhone 2g > unlocked 3g iPhone w/ iOS4

Well I bought another iPhone since my 2g died. I do have the backup but was wanting to know if anyone knows for sure once I sync/restore my backup to the 3g iPhone w/ iOS4 installed. It's unlocked right now. Will it sync all my old apps and stuff and I still use iOS4 or will it restore everything including the 3.1.2 OS?

I think it will still have OS4 as apparently as i have tried many times that you cannot remove OS4 once upgraded to it,as told by Apple.

Yeah everything upgraded just fine. All my apps and music is on there. I can't tell the difference other than I need to reinstall Winterboard to get my custom wallpaper and I need to install the hack to be able to send MMS messages again .
