I've always made my iTunes purchases on my Mac and they've been transferred to my iPhone when I've connected it to sync. In order to fit everything on, I've got 'Convert higher bitrate songs to 128 kbps AAC' selected so my 256 kbps iTunes purchases automatically get resampled to 128 kbps before being copied onto my iPhone on syncing.

However, with iOS5 now that my new iTunes purchases are automatically pushed to all my registered devices direct from iTunes, I assume these downloads will be at 256 kbps on my iPhone and I don't see anyway around that (short of turning off Automatic Downloads), the same as I guess it would have always been if I'd made my purchases on my iPhone rather than on my Mac.

Is there a way around this, i.e. to ensure that all my tracks are at 128 kbps on my iPhone, no matter how they get on it? As a thought, if I sync with my Mac will it then replace the 256 kbps version on my iPhone with a 128 kbps one?
