You do the math. If Apple included the Retina display and added some fresh powerful GPU on it, would it be more powerful than the previous generation? I mean, of course it would be but let's say you're playing a game and the previous generation is also playing a game. Which one would have the higher frame rate?

I'm worried about this because if the Retina Display will reduce the MacBook Pro's performance, then the Retina Display isn't ready to meet the computers.

The game will run better on better hardware, assuming all other things are equal. Just because the screen has retina resolution, doesn't mean you have to use if for gaming.

Running games well at retina resolution? Not going to happen, not on any laptop.

Use desktop apps at retina resolution, play games at 1/2 resolution. Simple solution.

Retina branded displays in a 13" or 15" form factor would be running resolutions similar to 2560x1600, which is the benchmark resolution for high end gaming desktops with very powerful $350+ dedicated GPUs.

In short, there isn't a mobile GPU currently in existence that could run a recent game at retina-like resolutions and maintain an acceptable frame rate--to say nothing for the more mediocre parts that Apple usually installs.
