Retina display will hit ipad 2012 (gruber update)

In a new post today (after gruber sayed late yesterday that the ipad will not get a retina display this year) links to someone anylysis that 2012 will likely be the year that the ipad gets a retina display and then says "His conclusion jibes with what i'm hearing."

Meaning he is hearing that a retina display ipad is being worked on, prototypes on apple campus, but is on schedule for 2012.

This seems to make sense to me. This year will be big performance increase (dual core, more ram), availability on Verizon, Facetime, and an SD card slot. Then we'll get iOS 5, and then next year the big thing will be the new display, probably with the other specs being bumped more modestly.

yea, and i bet we will have to have 1 gb of ram that year too
double it this year,
then double it again in 2012

oh and i also remember Gruber asking Josh Topolsky (engadget) on twitter if he was sure that his source was talking about ipad 2. Should've notice that was a hint at the time that he thinks it will hit 2012.

Yep, that would be about right. Odds are either iPad 3 or iPad 4 will be LTE-capable. An LTE iPad with a 2048x1536 display would be awesome.

I'm inclined to agree we will see 4g in 2012, first ipad and then iphone 6

i am hoping the rumor about both the ipad 2 and iphone 5 this year will have the qualcom cellular chip that works both on cdma and gsm

it makes sense, or else apple will have 3 different SKU for each storage capacity

Wifi, gsm, and cdma thats atleast 9 different ipads to choose from
