I recently purchased an HP 25bw monitor and I'm looking to link that to my MacBook Pro Retina 13', however I'm having some issues with the display.

It is currently connected via HDMI from my MacBook to the monitor itself. Is there a better way of doing this? Am I better off purchasing an adapter to go into the thunderbolt port?

The external display is not bad color wise, but the text/font and the graphics of the mirroring seem off by a lot. I tried changing settings (sharpness, color profiles) and things like that on both, but no dice as of yet.

Any suggestions?

HDMI is as good as anything for that monitor; it's a 1920x1080 resolution (88 ppi). If you're mirroring the built-in display it's not going to be as sharp. Your built-in display is 2560x1600 (227 ppi).
