Hi guys,

I'm planning to buy a new iMac considering that I just sold my 2011 iMac.

I have two choices:

A) A Retina iMac with the M295X and the 3TB Fusion Drive (3164$ CAD before taxes)

B) A refurbished 2013 iMac with NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780M graphics processor with 4GB of GDDR5 memory and the 3TB Fusion Drive (2509$ CAD before taxes)

(see link: http://store.apple.com/ca/product/G0PG4LL/A/refurbished-27-inch-imac-35ghz-quad-core-Intel-Core-i7 )

I use my iMac to watch videos on YouTuve, Safari, iPhoto and light gaming on Bootcamp.

I'm really interested with the Retina display but I've also read that the Retina iMac heats a lot with the M295X.

The main question is: Which iMac I should buy? A 2013 iMac or a 2014 Retina iMac?

Thanks in advance for your help!

For what you're using it for I think the 2013 Refurb would be the way to go. Nothing you're doing would gain a huge benefit from the 5k screen and it'd save a lot of money.

if you want the ultimate display the 5k is for you. i game from time to time BUT in the first 3-4 min of the game the fan is kicking loud but after a bit it isn't anymore. (295x here)

The Retina every time. Non-retina screens are yuk! Doomed to the dustbin of computing. Also, don't buy a paper tape punch for backup :D
