Hi

I'm trying to setup my iMac as a media centre using plex.

The issue i'm having is that there is no 5.1 output via the mini display port adaptor to HDMI cable. I've tried 2 adaptors with no success.

The midi setting allows the audio to be changed to 5.1 but the rear channels come out of the front so the mac only appears to be passing 2.1. I've tried with both the TV connected and disconnected with the same result so it's looking like the retina iMac is only capable of passing 2.1 via it's mini displayport.

I could run an optical cable to obtain 5.1 but i don't particularly want to do that as i use the port with a set of HK soundsticks so that would mean swapping the cable every time i want to use plex.

So, Can anyone confirm the iMac is only capable of 2.1 audio from it's display port and if there are any other solutions i haven't thought of?

Thanks

Please ignore. Turns out it was the AV amp stuck in a weird mode. Changing to another input them back fixed the problem.
