Retina iMac and external hard drive problems!

All the sudden my 27" RiMac has started randomly ejecting both my external hard drives, at different intervals. If they're plugged in, and actually show up, the folders can't be opened and then they eject again. It'll also eject my iPhone mid-sync.

Any thoughts? Never had a problem like this before.

.....an SMC or PRAM reset, it may well help for this sort of issue.
