Anyone out there who maybe have a medical answer for this? I'm mostly just super curious and jelly (jealous).

I don't think staring at a monitor of any type for long periods of time is any good for one's eye-sight, and especially not in a dark room, but maybe high-DPI monitors are easier on the eyes.
