I think this is going to be a tough decision.

I sold my iPad 3 for a mini because the 10" was too big and heavy to use for reading. If the iPad 5 was considerably lighter and thinner with reduced side bezels, I might consider going back to the bigger model.

What are your thoughts?

Tough one. Decisions like these make my credit card hurt.. both?

The 5 will likely have something over the mini retina.

So 5.

But i voted retina mini.

Because it's too hard to decide.

:D

ACTUALLY..

The 13" iPad Pro will take the cake - if it happens.

great logic in that vote...

Anyway, I voted iPad 5

Personally, I believe that any retina ipad mini will basically sport the ipad4's existing specs (1gb ram, A6x) while the ipad5 should have better specs (looking at 2gb ram, A7X).

If the specs are significantly better, I may upgrade to the ipad5, as I need my apps to run smoothly under the effect of constant airplay mirroring, and the ipad3 is starting to lag slightly in that regard.

There was also talk a couple of years back about apple introducing some sort of real-feel screen tech in a new iPad. I think that could make an appearance on the 5.

Same but because of heat issue. Lack of retina and screen is too small for video,TV and websites is a killer.
Might even get a 4 now if not a 5 for sure.

Im in the same boat. I went from an iPad 3 to the mini because of the weight and portability. With the mini-like form factor and bezel, the 5 is starting to appeal to me.

Its a tough one, but Im still going to say the mini. While I would welcome the larger screen of a lighter iPad 5, I still take my iPad almost everywhere I go, and the fact that I can just slip it into my pocket is just too convenient to give up. I think Im going to get the retina mini.

I vacillate between the two every time I pick up my iPad 3 and mini (Ill be selling both). It may be the CPU/GPU/RAM combo that edges out the mini - I want the best specs this time around, and something that will run without compromise for a few years ideally.

I'm not sure till I see and try both. I think the people who are looking forward to the new mini might have problems deciding after they try the iPad 5.

I voted iPad 5. I have the current Mini right now and I would like to switch it up for my next iPad.

Both?

Aren't you allowed to buy both, or do the tablet police show up if you have both?

Just saying...

I would have to see the specs and the pricing for the various storage options. Although right now, I am leaning towards just sticking with my current iPad mini for another year at least.

Lets face it, the iPad mini's advantage was its beautiful chamfered edges and weight.
Make that happen on the iPad 5 and it'll be a winner no doubt.

I agree with this. The bigger screen is great for reading. I usually use my iPad indoors, so I don't need the portability that the iPad Mini gives.

Same here, sticking with my Mini with cellular for at least another year. Alternatives for browsing with the Mini now to increase font size make my decision that much easier.

I use my 4 at home only. So portability is not an issue. I'm big on future proofing, so best specs are important.

The 4 is a tad heavy, so a lighter 5 would be great.

iPad 5. Toss up almost, but the larger screen area with retina tilted the scale to the 5. And if its going to be slightly lighter, that is a plus. More restate you know ? ;)

I'd choose the 5th gen iPad for sure. I've used the iPad mini a lot, and I love almost everything about it. The large retina display will make the iPad 5 perfect for me.
