retina macbook and samsung series 9 monitor compatibility

the new samsung series 9 monitor has "a plethora of connections, including DisplayPort, Dual Link DVI, HDMI, MHL, and USB".

i know hdmi connection taps out at hd (1080p) but is there a way to connect using thunderbolt/ mini display port to access the higher resolutions that the card offers?

Buy a mini DisplayPort to DisplayPort cable.

Check Samsungs specifications. If it is the 27", then 2560x1440.
