Retina macbook pro w/Usb 3 SSD external.

does any one have any experience running apps off a usb 3 external hard drive running an ssd?

i was worrying about not having enough space on the 256gb model to run bootcamp AND install games, but then thought "why not use the crucial m4 128gb i have from before and install all my windows games on there from an external usb 3 enclosure?"

now, would this even be usable? would the speeds noticeably hinder gameplay ?

I put my old Samsung 830 256GB SSD in a USB 3 drive caddy to copy data over and it was impressively fast. During file copy I saw sustained reads and writes around 280MB/sec (yes, megabytes). I know the 830 is capable of more but moving data between there and the internal SSD was FAST.
