I've searched and have not seen a thread on this yet - pls post a link if there already is one:

The new minis depth increases by only 0.3mm. Given how snug the existing mini cases can fit from various companies, I have a feeling some cases will not be compatible with both models.

Since I am planning to buy a new retina mini I have reservations to buying the current cases designed for the old minis.

Well aside from the depth size, there's also a microphone on the back now, which imaginably would require a slight redesign in cases.

The rMini is only like a 1/10 of an inch thicker. I would think even the most form fitting case could compensate for that minute increase, though the mini might not be completely flush w/ the case.

Or an Xacto knife.
