Just curious if anyone else has had this experience.

A friend of mine bought the refurb retina for $1599 canadian, specd at 2.3ghz, 8gb ram, 256gb SSD

He ended up getting a 16GB model. Anyone else run into this?

It happens quite often that when buying a refurb from Apple, they send a higher-spec model at the same price. Just one more benefit of buying Apple refurbs.

There are many posts here about people getting higher specs than they ordered when buying refurbished. I've only ever bought one Apple refurbished computer and I wasn't lucky enough for this to happen to me.

Wow, didn't know that... Never won the refurb Apple lottery here... :(

For the rMBP, that is like hitting the lottery. He can upgrade the SSD expensively, due to the limit choice(s).

I sure hope I win the refurb lottery like your friend did. I purchased that same model, and I will finding out whether not I'm lucky tomorrow!
