Retrieving contacts from lost iphone via itunes to new phone.

Hi guys,

I've lost my old iPhone3GS in a taxi. It had 10 years worth of contacts. I'd previously synced the phone to iTunes in the past but couldn't find the contacts there.
I've just bought a 4S and attached it to my Mac, hoping it would sync to iTunes and restore all my contacts that I used to have.
Unfortunately this did not work. It just added some random details from my email account but not the 100's of numbers I had on my old phone.

If anyone could help, I would be immensely grateful.

You need to restore from a backup from the old phone.

Thanks for your reply. Can I find the backup without having the old phone? If so, how do I do it?
