I did a clean install (from a USB boot drive on a new 1.5TB) of Mountain Lion to a 2007 iMac. That same day, the 500GB Time Capsule that had the backup of user data (files, photos, music) decided to succumb to the classic power supply failure. That backup was done while Lion was the OS.

I pulled the drive out of the TC, mounted it in an external dock and can see the backups in the Data partition.

What's the best method to access the old TC drive via the Data Migration utility so that I can retrieve the user data?

Update: Did more research and found that copying the image file of the backup to the desktop of the iMac, then using Back-In-Time software did the trick.
