Where I am
So, today, is 8 days that I have been using the iPhone 12 Pro Max.
Nice device, and does what Apple says it will do.

However, I am coming from an iPhone 11 Pro Max. And, to be honest, the main difference I 'feel' is the shape of the device.
Yes, I know the camera has lots of upgraded features. But...

Anyway, I have been reviewing the MBA and MBP. And, I am seriously considering purchasing one. With that in mind, I feel it might be more practical and financially viable to return my iPhone 12 Pro Max, and purchase a MBA or MBP; either one running an M1 chip.

Hmm, decisions decisions.

PS: Not looking for answers per se'. Merely conversating...

I haven't upgraded from my 11 Pro Max yet. Still slightly on the fence, but I'm also thinking using that money and to upgrade my 2014 15" MBP (which is still running fine) when they release the M1 16".

Those M1 Macs are looking like a quantum leap, whereas the 12PM is more of a standard evolutionary upgrade (as your experience bears out.)

It sounds like both of these are indulgences more than actual needs, though, so... follow your hunger. ;)

I used to chase tech, but recently stopped and find myself more satisfied and happy in life. Upgraded from 11PM to 12PM for the squared design + Qualcomm modem, couldn't be happier.

Would I like the new M1 MBP over my current MBP? Sure, seems like a significant upgrade, blazing fast, etc. Do I need it? Nope, it's definitely overkill for me personally and my 2019 MBP handles everything I throw at it perfectly fine.

To me the display on the 12 pro Max is much better, especially the 1200 bits of brightness with HDR.

Very good point a few of you have made, about "chasing tech".
That is exactly what this is, sort of. I don't bloody need those things. Alas, it is nice to 'play' with new stuff. I suppose, that's the tech person in me...

Fair to discover that about oneself and it’s never to late to start a change of habits.
Very good point. As a gadget and IT person, I have never really thought of it that way. Merely often felt, I had to 'review' certain items myself, versus what 'influences' were saying.

Regardless, from a financial perspective, it certainly makes sense to change certain habits.

My thoughts exactly! I work in IT and in order to stay up to date I feel I should "test drive" new tech (that catches my eye!). Or that is what I tell my husband!!

I think if you've got an older laptop, I'd definitely return the 12 Pro Max. I've still got my 11 Pro Max. I never upgraded. I likely won't for another year or two (maybe 3). I wouldn't ever have this dilemma because I don't buy the devices outright.

My laptop is 8 years old. It's an old HP. I guess I rarely use laptops aside from data transfers between Android devices or backups of data.

Unfortunately, M1 isn’t a consideration for me. I need my Intel Mac Mini to run Windows for school and have the use of three monitors, so until MS opens the door and M1 supports multiple monitors, I’ll have to live vicariously through forum members. However, I would not part with my 12 PM, or some future iPhone just to purchase a Mac as both serve different functions for me. If your 11 PM is working and you are still satisfied with its performance, then go for the M1. Decisions, decisions... 🤪.

The only reason I upgraded from my XS is for the modem and because my XS developed an issue with the mic.

Oh, and got a great trade in deal from TMobile...

But what phone would you get? I’ve just ordered M1 air but as part of my ecosystem
My initial idea was to merely go back to using my iPhone 11 Pro Max.

My Missus just reminded me that I am a Tech gadget person, and like to try things for myself. And, that is quite okay...
