Return phone - what happens to contract

I am frustrated by the preorder debacle I ordere about 1240 PST and have a 10/5 date. My local Verizon has plenty.

I renewed my AT&T contract when I bought it. When I receive the AT&T phone and return it, do they cancel my 2 year renewal also?
