I've searched the forum for an answer but I can find it anywhere....I've also searched through the manual, but still can't find it...

I'm building a pretty simple DVD that has "play all" and "chapter selection" buttons....what I'd like is when the movie is played from the main menu, I'd like it to return to the main when when the menu button is pressed (which it does just fine...) I'd also like it when played from the chapter selection menu to return to the chapter selection menu when the menu button is pressed....but it always goes back to the main menu....

on other programs it gave the option of programing it to "return to most recent menu"....but I can only figure out how to set a menu that it always returns to...

any help?

thanks!

I'm pretty sure that's about what you get w/ DVDSP.

Try the "return" button should take you to the last menu.

Peace out

Of course you can do it with DVD Studio Pro! A lot of DVDs are authored in DVDSP before it goes to replication. We are not talking iDVD here.

To do what you're asking requires adding a script to the chapter menu and assigning a variable so that the DVD player can return to the chapter menu once it's called from the main track. This is one of the most requested and common script and it's very basic and simple to do.

There are several tutorials on DVDSP scripting floating around the web. I would check out 2-pop or Trai Forrester's website.

hey hhm,

this is simple. fear not..the answer is here! (at least from what i understand you are looking for). i do this all the time. and i mean, for every single dvd i create. if you're asking for the dvd to return to the chap. selection menu while the movie is playing, then read on. from what i read, it sounds like you may want to return to the chapter selection menu when you press the chap. selection menu button on that menu, but that doesn't make sense so i think it's the 1st one :)

in your outline tab, click on your track.
click your connections (right middle of screen), then click on advanced beside 'view'. this provides deeper options to make choices. this is where you can basically tell your dvd to go.

you should see your chapter markers listed below in the advanced tab.
click on the first one.
now, on the very right hand side, under the 'target's, click the arrow menu for more selections, choose menu 2 or chapter selections - whatever you've named your chap. selections menu. you'll see more options. assuming you want the 1st chapter to return to the chapter selection button #1, then double click in the 'target' line beside 'chapter 1: menu'* in your advanced view. * don't choose chapter 1: End jump as this will mean once chapter one ends, it will go back to the menu, which you don't want to do.

it should populate accordingly.

if you have probs, let me know and i'll post some screen shots.

Cheers,
keebler

repeat for the rest.

Thanks for the responses...

but,

What I'm looking for is the ability for a single movie to return to different menu's depending on which menu was the last one played...

for example, when you play a movie from the main menu and while watching the movie you hit the "menu" button it will return to the main menu (which is the most recently played menu).

Now lets say from the main menu you select the "chaper selection" button and from the main menu you navigate to menu 2, where all the chapters are listed. Now you select and play chapter 3....while watching, you decide you want to watch a different chapter so you hit "menu" ......but it takes you back to the main menu so now you have to navigate back to menu 2 and then select your desired chapter.....

I don't want it to always go back to the main menu or to always go to menu 2....I'd like it to return to the main menu when played from the main menu.....and return to the chapter menu when played from the chapter menu.....

or in simpler words...I'd like it to return to the most recently played menu....

does all that make sense?

I know how to asign it to always go to the same menu but I don't want that....

hope that helps to explain my question....

thanks again...

yup..that explains it. i completely misunderstood. my bad. spicy's got the right link i bet.

out of curiosity, can i ask why you want to do it that way? it's not a critical question at all, but quite serious. i'm wondering if i can use it. i transfer home videos for people so i use my previously described methods, but i'm wondering if i can enhance it.

cheers,
keebler

ps. me thinks spicy's isn't a normal home user like i asked her before. me thinks she's a pro which is fantastic as a resource.

I'll try out spicy's way probably on monday....when I have more time.

the reason I need it to do this is I do alot of instructional Guitar DVD's that have many different lessons. On the main menu there's a "play all" button....but sometimes you don't want to "play all" and you want (or need) to go straight back the the "lesson (or chapter) selection"

With every DVD I've done, I wanted to do this...but never really had the time to figure it out....now I'm between projects and understand DVDSP better then when I bought it last year....

so there you go...
