Hello,

Anyone returned a Mac Mini M4 Pro for a MBP 16" M4 Max just for the Max chip set?

I would love to hear your experiences, especially why, and how better it worked for you.

STILL wanting an M4 Ultra machine.
Not certain I need one, but would like to have.

Thanks !

if you want desktop with Max in it, you have to wait studio
if portability, laptop doesnt bother you, then you can go 16" MBP with Max
But like you i wait for the Studio

Long story, condensed version:

Life long experienced PC user.
Finally feed up with constant fighting the whole m$ windoze thing.
Entertaining swapping to a different set of evils.
I use Photoshop CC, Lightroom Classic, and Davinci Resolve paid version.
I also enjoy programming, compiling my own apps, debugging, etc.
Unix background, and still enjoy via various Linux VM implementations.
Not selling anything as a pro, but enjoy and use/abuse pro class equipment and tools.
My PC is is now old, as I, sigh...
Win10, Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-8700K CPU @ 3.70GHz, 32GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080
Shrug, wanting something new.

Oh, definitely don't have unlimited funds.
And finding that in the Mac universe, the hardware seems to be far greater double+ pricing, compared to PC workstation equipment.
Ouch.

Well, a new Studio with M2 Max and 32GB of RAM is $2K in the USA. The base M2 Ultra, which is literally twice the storage and power, is twice as much at $4K. Another option is an Apple refurb model. That would save you a little more cash. I don't see any of the base M2 Max configurations in the refurb store at the moment. You'll have to keep looking for one. it would save you about 15-20%. So maybe $1600-1700 or so. Not so bad and not totally out of line with high-end PC configurations. Also, you could look at the used market. Would save you even more.

I love my M4 max MB, it's quite honestly the best Computer I've ever used when taking into account the full package, it is by no means perfect but its head and shoulders above the rest.

You wait and you'll get more power in the Ultra M4 and that might be the better play for you in the end. I have a gaming pc 7800x3d/7900xtx and it suits my gaming needs but if I didn't game as much and wanted something comparable and or had an older PC I was using for work, would just wait and buy an Ultra.

That way you get more power that's also going to be quieter when you're pushing it. Though if you need the mobility or want mobility the M4 Max is amazing with great battery life.
