Has anyone been given a brand new replacement unit (CRU) from apple and been able to return the item (either opened or unopened)? Or at the very least, do you know if its possible to return a sealed replacement for store credit? Looking to hear people's past experiences!

Thanks in advance!

EDIT: By replacement unit, i meant a unit that apple is giving after numerous repair attempts of a macbook purchased over a year ago. so the current laptop i have has been repaired 5 times so under warranty, so instead of repairing it again, they are going to give me a brand new laptop after i send mine in

Yes, you should shouldn’t have an issue with that. Don’t open it and if you have your receipt they should provide you store credit for the value fo the device.

I did it 2 weeks ago, after using machine for a while. Piece of cake. As long as you’re within return window.

Just so we're on the same page... by replacement unit, i meant a unit that apple is giving after numerous repair attempts of a macbook purchased over a year ago. so the current laptop i have has been repaired 5 times so under warranty, so instead of repairing it again, they are going to give me a brand new laptop after i send mine in. so i'm not sure if they'll even be giving me a new receipt with this new laptop

so i should provide the original receipt i had for the laptop i purchased a year ago, and ask them for store credit for that amount?

You can just provide the Apple store the replacement device and if there is any sort of documentation of the purchase date they should be able to credit that amount of the new Mac.

Hey OP, were you able to get it returned for some credit? I am in the same position now...got a 16 inch replacement but at the time I didn't pay for the upgrades that I wanted now I want to do that...

did you try to return it at a store? I called customer service but they said no way. Did it come with a recipe or order number? My similar situation is also with the 16 but now they're all going to be outdated
