Received LTE AW4 on Friday (pre-ordered from Apple) and activated with Verizon, or so I thought. First time owner and I didn’t realize that it wasn’t fully activated until I attempted to go for a run and while it had Verizon as network it said No connection.

After calling Verizon customer service and speaking to several tiers of tech support they came to the conclusion that it’s a hardware problem and must be retuned / exchanged at Apple. During the troubleshooting process it was showing No Sim on their end and therefore they claimed there was nothing they can do.

I’m not fully convinced this is the issue but after spending the better part of Saturday trying to get this resolved it really turned me off. Regardless whether this is an Apple problem, Verizon one or me doing something dumb I’m going to return it altogether.

I realize this is one of those “and?” posts, but just wanted to share as I haven’t seen a whole lot of issues with activation this go around.

Honestly, there seems to be more than a fair share of issues going around. Mine has a dud battery.. Had it on for a few hours, placed on charge and woke up the next morning to see the battery won't charge.. Currently going through the motions with Apple.. Aggravating to say the least.

Mine went flawlessly, but I think I read somewhere on the board that a batch of early watch e-SIM numbers didn't get into Verizon's system.

tcador: i can totally appreciate why a new customer to a product might not give a product a second chance and that is why apple absolutely must keep quality control up and fight for every customer because a business doesn't often get a second chance. i think you know most of us love our apple watches and i'd encourage you to give the watch another chance but if not i get why.

Yes seriously, as others have said, give it a second go. Once it’s up and running I promise you won’t regret it.

Bought my first apple watch Friday (40mm/space gray aluminum) and after spending a couple days with it returning it today. Used it daily at work, a couple runs/workouts but just don't see the need for it tbh. Always had to go back to my phone to finish tasks and lack of (i know) spotify and google maps is annoying. Apple Maps has no turn by turn direction with bikes and that was another reason I wanted the watch (to free me from my phone while riding).

If a map while biking is important to you, you should try an app called "WorkOutdoors". Turns my Apple Watch into a Fenix 5x.

Apple Maps has been great for me, driving, walking, and biking. I like the haptic feedback as well as being able to glance down to see the next turn coming up. So, I'm not sure I understand what you mean by "no turn by turn directions".

You're right, Apple Maps does provide turn by turn directions but only via walking or driving. Google Maps provides a bike option, which then routes the quickest (and safest) options and even includes bike paths when available. Important when biking in LA and NYC to avoid cars as much as possible.

Thanks for the feedback. I will definitely be giving it another shot at some point. I really look forward to using it mainly for the health benefits, primarily being able to decouple from my phone on long runs. Just not sure when that time will be yet.

I went to an apple store yesterday and returned and upgrading my phone instead, which seems counter intuitive but it was overdue anyways. The apple store rep was very helpful though and mentioned they have an activation center that will help work thru these issues, including working directly with a Verizon / att rep directly if needed. So next time I attempt this I’ll likely buy in store and handle the activation that way. Got a little too wrapped up in the launch day shenanigans this time.
