Returning iPhone 6 to Apple Store

I bought my iPhone 6 during preorder online from Apple's website, but I did it for in store pick up.
I have decided to go with the 6+ instead. Can I return the phone to the apple store or does it need to be shipped back? Return policy states iPhones bought through apple.com must be shipped back...but since I did in store pick up I didn't know if that would make a difference.
