If my iphone were to break/die not because of my fault and I were to need it fixed would they just give me a new one or send it to apple to fix it? Also how will that change later on?

Right now they would probably just give you a new one as long as it wasn't accidental damage or something.

While it's under warranty Apple's "repair" procedure for iPhones is to replace your iPhone. If you have this done in the store (and they have it in stock) they'll replace it there for you.

The warranty states they will replace it with either new or refurbished.
