I have been using this charger for a few days with great pleasure.
Anker is known for quality iPhone and Android accessories and this charger continues the quality for the most part. The reason I say most part will be pretty obvious in the pictures but its trivial and does not affect the use of the product.
I began my testing my letting my iPhone 6 completely die and shut off. I think plugged this up and let it go from 0 to 100% real quick. (song pun for all the Drake fans) Ok so it wasn't super quick, but it was pretty quick. 0 to 100% took 1 hour and 45 minutes (rounding up). During this period the phone nor charger ever got hot. It was just barely warm to touch.
The plastic housing for the wall plug is high-gloss white just like Apple's wall plug. The cable has a tacky feeling to it, not matte like Apple's but this is fine. The chip end of the cable is very clean. You can tell these are MFi components in this cable not some cheap stuff that will stop working after a month.
I really like how the charger usb port is at the top or bottom of the plug depending on how you plug it in vs. Apple's being on the front side. Anker's charger makes it easier to have behind a night stand or bed or even bed but there is also some minimal issues with the wall plug as well. It has foldable prongs just like Apple's but Anker's prongs are not as strong as Apple's meaning when you open them out to plug it into the wall they don't snap into place like Apple's. I found myself trying to plug this in blindly during the night and folding the prongs back into the unit as it hit up against the wall. If you flip the unit upside down to where the cable is coming out of the bottom you won't run into this issue but its an issue non the less.
Then theres the quality control issue. Look at the pictures I posted, you will see how the plastic does not line up making it difficult to put the cable into the charger port for the first few times. Then also look at the picture of the cable plugged in. There is a noticeable gap, either the plug port is not deep enough or the cable's usb end is too long. Again minimal things but noticeable. The first effects the usability right out of the box, the second is more of a visual concern.
If you can look past the visual concern and factor in that I may have gotten a bad unit this would be a wonderful additional charger! It does charge the 5/6/6+ and newer iPads that use the updated charging port.
I do feel the price point should be slightly adjusted as well. Yes Apple's cable $14.99 and the wall adapter is $19.99 so you are at $35 vs $19.99 for Anker's offering, however Anker sells these items separately for $9.99 each. I feel since its a bundle it should maybe be $2 cheaper or something like that but even at the $19.99 its still a GREAT value for MFi with an outstanding warranty!
I love Anker's packaging. Its by far one of the best from a newer to the scene company and they always seem to improve on it!
I would highly recommend this charger to anyone who wants to enable the faster charging on their new iPhone 6/6+ as it drastically reduces the charging time compared to what comes in the box, or even to have as a spare!
