While I have long used the Twelve South Forté on my bedside table to dock my Apple Watch each night, I lacked a convenient alternative for on the go until last week. Enter the Standzout Helix Dock, a compact and convenient charging solution for the Apple Watch.

Helix is an Apple Watch dock made from injection molded polycarbonate plastic. It stores between a 0.3-meter and two-meter Apple Watch charging cable and Apple's official USB wall charger in a compact and convenient housing, available in clear, black, white, and a phosphorescent glow-in-the-dark color options.

Very creative! If I had an aWatch I'd get one.

If only Apple would stick a cellular radio in the watch...

My watch will get pretty warm while charging sometimes so I'm not so sure about this. Looks like a good option if you travel a lot though.

I am not entirely sure I would want my Stainless Steel Watch docked this close to an electrical outlet, it just makes me uncomfortable looking at it. No thanks.
Could be good whilst travelling, in a hotel or whatever. But it's not for me. Especially so because it looks like to be a US-only adapter.

This would be great if there somehow was a pass-through usb to plug in an iPhone cord simultaneously. Between my iPhone, MacBook, and Apple Watch, I'm carrying around a lot of cords when I'm traveling.

Is it just me that's a wee bit worried about the extra heat that will be generated by the cords wired around the charger and then encapsulated in that little plastic box.

Assuming it's a-okay to use a powered on cable wrapped in a tight coil, this seems like a neat way to hide the cable and keep the charging experience straightforward and as minimal as possible.

Clever.

And this would be very handy for traveling.

However, I still stay in lots of hotels that have not been retrofitted. End up having to pull out the nightstand and unplug the useless clock radio. I have visions of plugging this in and forgetting the watch in the morning -- out of sight, out of mind, especially when jetlagged or with early morning departure.

I thought the same thing myself.

I don't blame you, what with the lack of an Earth pin on the US plugs!
Thee NEMA 1-15, Type A has two prongs without earth / ground while NEMA 1-15, Type B has three prongs and an earth / ground. There is less emphasis on earth plugs in the States as most home outlets are wired for 115 VAC instead of 230 V.

You usually only see 230 V for laundry machines (usually in a side room or the cellar and not the kitchen, all-in-ones are not common) and also in up and coming, electric car recharging. There is a plug for that which is quite robust and has a twist-lock configuration.

How many electrical outlets are located where it would be easy to tap the watch to see the time or hear the alarm? And, unless I'm missing something, the watch is held in place by slight magnetic attraction and gravity, so it seems that it would be easy to knock it off inadvertently.

Here at home and whenever I travel I keep the charger plugged in as close as possible to my bed with the watch on the nightstand. I realize that my use case doesn't match everyone else's, but this device wouldn't help me.

I'm going out on a limb and say this plastic thing cost $0.75 to make, so lets say w shipping and packaging $1. That is a huge margin, but normal for apple accessories.

The manual clearly mentions that it is preferred to pull the main street-level circuit breaker before and after.

Oh ok. I'll be sure to remember and do that every single time I plug the unit into the wall. What else does the manual say?

Yes. That and the strain that is put on the cable being bent at such a sharp angle.

I will be traveling in August and in September for business. Chicago, Crystal City Virginia, and Detroit. Lets see how this goes.

Why have I never seen a 3rd party charger that doesn't need the original cable? Mine is permanently plugged in next to my bed - I have a 2nd one for travel.
