Revolution 5.1 High-Definition 5.1 Surround Sound Card

I have been lookin to beef up my sound. I was wondering if anyone has ever tried this product or any like it. Is this the same purpose as the optical out or is the optical not surround? Is this the best way to get surround sound? Here is the link:

I have the amp connected complete with front and rear speakers to the optical out. I am only getting a signal from the front speakers however and the amp does not recognize the signal as 5.1. What do I do now?

I think only DVD player and certain apps do it. Not everything such as itunes
