Firstly let me tell you that i am using a Power Mc G4 Dual 867 - Mac OSX 10.4.11

I was watching a dvd on my computer when it crashed and stuck, the whole computer froze and I couldnt do anything.
Even Force Quitting wouldnt work so i had to switch off using the power button.

When i restarted the machine everything looked fine, but after a while i noticed that the icons would dissapear for 1sec and then come back again.

Now continuosly this keeps happening so clearly some thing has gone wrong somewhere.

IF ANYONE CAN SUCCESFULLY ADVISE ME ON HOW TO CORRECT THIS - THEY WILL RECEIVE A DECENT REWARD !

that's a bit older of a computer but it sounds to me like it might be video card problems. I'm just taking a shot in the dark here but maybe try doing some trouble shooting with you're video card.

General icons, or dock icons? there is some info just googling
G4 icons dissapear
http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=6725725
could be caused by a corrupt Finder plist or LaunchServices.
to ~(yourHome)/Library/Preferences and trash these two files:
com.apple.finder.plist
com.apple.sidebarlists.plist
Then log out and back in again. Or restart.
(You will have to reset a few finder prefs the way you like them.)

If that doesn't help, LaunchServices may be the culprit.
~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.LaunchServices.plist Move that file to the trash and test.

https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/432827/ has more info on desktop icons.
