Hey all,

Got my new imac last night! Yeah!

Issue...

Just turned on setup assistant between the two macs. Old one is a MacBook 4,1 with snow leopard. I have like ~150GB of data. Current remaining time is 106 hours!

Is that legit or did I find some way to mess this simple process up?

They are connected with Ethernet by the way.

Thanks much!

Started over and time is now 54 min remaining. All good coast is clear!

Way too long, the migration is probably long completed. I'd recommend disconnecting and testing. Next time restore from a Time Machine or bootable clone backup.

You most likely have a failing drive in the system. Whenever I see a ridiculous number like that, 9/10 that is what it is. It can also be that it is stuck on something.

If you are connected via ethernet, I would give it time and see if that number goes down. If not, grab a thunderbolt to firewire adapter and a firewire 400 to 800 cable. Turn off the MB and then turn it back on an immediately press and hold T to put it into target disk mode.
Under migration assistant, choos time machine or other disk and select the now connected MB drive (it will be orange with a fire wire symbol on it) and let it do its thing.
