Hai,

I've got a 13-inch MacBook Pro since July 2009. It came with EFI update 1.6 iirc, I updated to 1.7 when it came out, it was working fine. But then I started to get beachballs every few seconds. I rang Apple Support and they said to clear the cache, remove my preference files and verify the hard disk. I did this and it was a bit better, but I still got beachballs. Then I just re-installed and the problem seemed to have faded away.

As of now, I am on EFI 1.6; on Snow Leopard 10.6.1; stock hard drive (FUJITSU MJA2320BH FFS G1). I ran the AJS System Test out of curiosity and I was shocked at my read/write speeds after looking at others with stock drives. I was getting about 45MB/s on write and 48MB/s on read. This to me looks really slow and I should be getting around 60/70MB a second, right? I downgraded the EFI to 1.6 but it has seemed to make no difference whatsoever.

What should I do? Can I do anything to make it faster? I've also been getting long shut downs as well, I get a blue screen with a spinning wheel, sometimes it takes a few seconds to shut down, sometimes a whole minute before it goes off. This is my first Mac, and I have to say, my experience hasn't been one of the best of experiences. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks
