for various reasons I am making the switching to macs, I am looking at getting the 24" 2.8 ghz imac, 500gb hdd, and the nvidia 8800 gs.

The buying guide says now is a good time to buy considering that the iMacs were just updated. I was planning on getting it within the next week or should I wait to get it later in the summer in case there will be any potential start of school discounts? (I will be using the education discount anyways)

any and all input is appreciated

For gaming, the Nvidia card is superior. Upgrade RAM yourself. You'll probabally be fine with 2GB, but you could update to 4 later on your own.

Unless you play a lot of demanding games, the 2.8 is fine.

There is an article on barefeats.com on the early 2008 iMacs
