Twenty-seven people have been indicted for their role in a far-reaching an identity theft ring that used stolen credit cards to purchase products from Apple stores around the country and then resell them for a profit, prosecutors in Manhattan announced Wednesday.

So what happens if you buy something that was stolen by this group or similar without any means of knowing that is was indeed stolen? It would seem to me that Apple can link the CC to the serial numbers of the stolen items. Could you end up buying something and suddenly losing it?
