Ok, something’s messed up. Someone explain how this is even possible?

Just to explain my day. This screenshot was taken at 1145 pm. I slept last night from about 12:30 am until 6 am. I was wearing my watch. Somehow I was given stand credit for the entire time I slept.

There is no way I should have received credit for hours 1-5 am today.

I got in my car to drive for about 3-4 hours. I was sitting behind the wheel from about 725-1055 am, except for one brief stop at 930 for a potty break.

There is no way I should have received stand credit for the 8 am hour.

Then at 320 pm, I left on another drive home, which again put behind the wheel until 6:30 pm. One potty stop at 5:30 pm.

There is no way I should have received credit for the 4 pm hour.

I noticed early this morning that my move ring seemed to be off so I started paying attention to it. I turned on the workout app under OTHER for about 30 minutes while I was walking around Costco at midday. I turned it on again for 40 minutes tonight starting around 1055 pm as I was still doing
Some things around the house. These are the only two significant periods where I received credit on my move ring today. But I did record over 5,000 steps and close to 2.5 minutes of walking distance as I was doing various things throughout the day, including walking through a shopping mall and a few stores.

Any one have any idea why I only got credit for the 73 calories noted??

The other workout showing was actually started around 11:40 pm the night before and ended just after midnight. It was a HIIT Apple fitness workout and based in previous workouts, I would have expected much more than the 40 active calories it gave me. Earlier Friday I did a 10 minute HIIT workout and was given 107 active calories of credit. When I did a 20 minute workout, they only credited me with 40??

Strange things are afoot in my fitness app.

Any explanations would be appreciated.

no explanation, but try with restarting both watch and phone

I had tried restarting the watch only
Yesterday. Tried restarting both here earlier when I saw this recommendation but no change. And the problem persists. I’ve again received stand credit for every waking hour despite being firmly planted on the couch with very little movement for a couple of those hours. And having been awake since 7 am(it’s now 12:10h, I’ve only been credited with 8 active calories, snd that was when I ran an OTHER workout for about 10 minutes while doing some things around the house.

Looking at the stand hours, there seems to be messed up something with time zones...

I’m curious as to what would lead you to think this. I was in one time zone, Alaska, all day yesterday. Haven’t left this time zone for over a year.

The timezone-thing: The only time i got strange values of standing time (the only value which depends ONLY on realtime) was, when I was crossing multiple timezones. But I am aware, you did not leave Alaska 😉

I guess one thing to try would be to un-pair/pair, essentlially resetting the watch, not sure I would restore from backup or setup as new ...
is there anything else not right with the watch? if it's series 4 or newer, does ECG still work? just wondering if its a HW issue. if you still have apple care, get in touch with them

I forgot to mention in my original post that it is a series 5. I didn’t purchase apple care+ but it’s still under the 1 year warranty as I purchased it back in the spring, late April.

Just ran ECG and that seemed to work fine. Heart rate also seems to be working normally.

If I unpair/pair it, what if any data do I risk losing?

I will be crossing time zones this week. Thursday I fly to Seattle and then on to Nashville on Saturday as I begin a new job and chapter in my life on Monday.

none, your health data is backed up to iCloud and it might take a day or 2 to restore (check iCloud settings on your phone and make sure the backup health data is checked). everything will be restored when you setup the watch as restore during the pair ... and the un-pair backs the watch up to the phone. You will have to enter all CC info for Apple Pay though ...

Nice, wish you all the best! you should have less snow there :)

Ok, mystery solved. And I should have posted a couple nights ago when it was resolved.

I ended up calling Apple and they directed me to a page that told me how to re-calibrate and check a few other things. One thing it sent me to was my current health profile. As soon as I got there, I knew the problem. It showed my weight as 41 lbs. my actual weight is more like 245 lbs. Now, I’m sure you’re all wondering how it got set to 41 lbs. Well, I’m blaming my 4 year old granddaughter. You see, I use the Lose It app to track my calories consumed as well as my weight and a few other health metrics. My scale is one of those that sends my weight via Bluetooth. A day or so before my rings went wonky, my granddaughter had been visiting and apparently used my scale. Now, the scale is set in such a way that if a new weight is more than about 5-6 lbs different than your previous weigh-in, you have to step off the school and then tap on it at the appropriate time to confirm. While I’m sure my granddaughter didn’t intentionally tap to confirm it, nonetheless it happened. So when she sent the new weight to my lose it app, it also changed my health profile weight.

Mystery solved!! And life is good again!!!

Glad yours was solved, but I've had issues with the rings lately too. I did a 2 hour bike ride yesterday. I got the exercise ring within minutes. The move ring? Took HOURS.

Last week, I rode over 90 minutes. Got the exercise ring quickly, the move ring didn't update until after 10AM the next day.

I went through the while Health app, and tried looking at the AW, and nothing jumped out as a problem. Weird. It used to work a whole lot faster, and it's possible that it's gone sideways from the last update. I mean, thank Ford I'm not depending on the AW to report rides to Strava. I'd be a quivering mess if that happened. 'If it's not on Strava, it never happened'.

Anyone else having issues with rings like that?

One thing, pre-update, I could (usually did) go into Strava on my iPhone to add comments, etc, and *DING* the AW would let me know that I got 2 rings. Now? The AW just drags its feet and updates whenever it feels like it. I see the data coming from Strava, and Garmin Connect. I'd assume that those sources would also feel the move data too. *shrug*

Um VERY careful with this.

Unpairing doesn’t do anything ... BUT you’ll have a duplicate entry of the same watch in Fitness Data as a Source. IF you delete the former listing (there is still no way to tell which watch for the same watch has which data) ... you’ll loose ALL former data and thus your achievements can be affected!

Please VERY careful with over generalizing such advice.

well, unpairing resets your watch to factory settings, erasing your data, apps, settings, thus potentially removing rogue apps for example. For this specific case, it was totally unclear what the problem might be so I look at this as a last resort ...

I agree with you that the unpair/pair process adds the watch as another source. One could rename the watch right after that process when restoring from backup, or give it a new name when setting up as new. But, most won't remember or even know about this, and Apple does NOT provide sufficient documentation for this. I have also yet to see Apple documentation that describes the behavior you mention (deleting health data), I'm not questioning what you're saying, just stating insufficient Apple documentation.
With 5+ years of AW use, my Health data is now at 2.17GB, 3rd in rank after Photos and Music. This is not a concern for me with a 256GB iPhone, but, there is so much raw data that needs to be managed by the app that problems are going to be unavoidable, many users here have reported issues, lot health data, awards etc. I think Apple needs to get the under better control, and be forthcoming with documentation and add tools.

Thanks for sharing, that explains your odd calorie count but not really the 24hr stand rings, or am I missing something?
