Ringtone doesn't come through headphones

for some reason, when i have my earphones plugged in, i'll be playing music. it used to be that when i got a text, i would hear the text sound as the music fades in and fades out. now, the music fades out, but there's no text sound. anyone have any ideas?

I'm also trying to figure out the settings so that the ringtone happens only in my headphones when they are plugged in. When I mute, it doesn't ring in my ear....

ok figured it out stupidly. i think what happens is i crank up the ipod volume all the way up. when i'm in the car, the ringtone volume is still normal. so i barely hear it, but it happens. just is barely audible cuz the ipod volume is all the way up.
