I got the m4r files, but i can't drag and drop them in Itunes 10. Nothing shows up in the ringtones section. help!?
Many Thanks!
How long is the ringtone? Make sure to keep it under 30 seconds.
Besides drag-drop, what happens if you do a "right-click - open with - iTunes"?
Wirelessly posted (iPhone 4: Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_2_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8C148 Safari/6533.18.5)
Try using Import from the menu. Or copying the m4r files into your iTunes music folder then re-open iTunes.
Actually, all my ringtones are in the same folder and i've tried putting the ringtones in the iTunes music folder too. any more suggestions?
Did you convert them to aac in itunes?
Do you have a ringtones folder in your itunes directory?
What happens when you drag the file into the itunes library?
After you add the .mp3 to iTunes and convert to .m4a, what do you do next?
you may want to change the song EQ to trebble booster before converting it if you want a really loud ringtone.

1. find the song
2. rename extension to *.m4r
3. play it in itunes

The best and free way to place any format music or tones onto an iphone to use as a ringtone is by using the the free program "iringer"
1 Just download iringer
2 import tone or music
3 export to itunes
4 open itunes and tick in ringtones under the tab.
5 sync phone and its available under tones custom
