I am unable to try this but was wondering if you rip a DVD using RipIt in the dvdmedia format and this means that it can play in Apple's DVD player. Does this also mean that it can also open in QuicktimeX (or Pro). If so then does the Share to AppleTV option (in Quicktime) actually convert it into iTunes?

I don't have an Intel Mac :( so I can't try this but it is a tempting solution.
