Hello all.
I've googled (and searched here) to death about this inquiry periodically over the last two years, but I can't seem to find a viable solution for ripping subtitles from DVDs externally, meaning I do not wish to hardcode them as is very possible via Handbrake.
Two years ago I went with MacTheRipper + D-Subtitler (and Handbrake for ripping the actual movie), but this process, D-Subtitler in particular, was way too time consuming, because I basically had to review the entire subtitle transcript, line for line, to correct errors, etc. (imagine correcting the entire subtitles to a movie you haven't yet seen but look very forward to seeing. Not a pleasant experience).
When googling now it seems this is still the way it's done?
If possible .srt would be nice, but even bitmap would suffice, as long as it's an external file (.idx, .sub, whatever).
With such large subtitle communities (subscene.com, opensubtitles.org), I can't believe I can't find an easier way to do this. How do all these people do it?
End note: downloading from such communities, unfortunately, isn't an option, as the movies I'm ripping are pretty rare. For example:
Criterion Eclipse Series 32: Pearls of the Czech New Wave.
EDIT: I feel a little dumb. IT WAS ONE CHECK BOX I HAD MISSED (lol). In Handbrake under the subtitles tab: select the subtitle track and tick "defualt."
