Ripping DVDs on G4

Hey, I have a question for people out there with nicer machines than I have. How long would it take to rip a DVD then re-encode it to a VCD or MPEG-4 on a current dual 800-1g machine? My mac is still running and 604, and no DVD, but I have a decent PC that can do this and I am really curious.

I so want to get a 1G TiBook when it comes out, pleae happen!
