iPod ripping movies and TV shows for iPod use

So I was looking at that other forum that discussed this topic but I found the ideas seemed to be a bit old considering the forum predated the release of the first video iPod. Now as I prepare to buy a video iPod I am beginning to do some ripping. What would be the best suggested way to go about all of this, and what is good way to go about getting indvidual TV shows?

Once you have the on the compter, run them through iSquint with the settings Optimise for TV and H.264

It will do .avi, .mpg, .mp4 and .wmv. I dunno about other formats.
