So I received my 64GB AT&T iphone 5 on Wednesday, September 26th. I noticed that when I pressed the screen somewhat firmly when the notification center was on the screen, I could see little waves or ripples on the screen. Called Apple about it and they agreed to send me a new one. Got the new one today and noticed the same thing. I can't imagine that I would have gotten two defective iphones with the same exact problem.

Do any of you guys have this same issue? If possible, try to have the notification center empty and press firmly on the lower lefthand corner of the screen. Do you notice any waves or ripples?

This problem is not limited to the notification center of course - it just seems to be more noticeable to me on that screen because of the background colors and pattern. I notice it in other apps too (Passbook, Optimum app, etc.).

I would to your carrier store and test it out and see if it does the same thing. Talk to a manager and get them to send apple another replacement, Apple might deny to send another one and just call you paranoid.

I can duplicate what you are seeing, but I am having to push really hard on the screen to accomplish that. I'm not sure that what you are seeing is a flaw. Pushing on the screen firmly is not necessary on the IP5 (or any other model iPhone for that matter).

I can duplicate this. It's is what happens when you push too hard on an LCD, the diffusion and touch layers collide and cause a ripple. Perfectly normal for any LCD, just don't press as hard as the capacitive touch screen doesn't require any force. Haven't you ever ran your finger across an LCD tv and saw the same?

Lol . . . Why does this thread not surprise me?

Not sure what you're trying to say but I'm just trying to determine if I got a lemon. I only have one other friend that currently has an iphone 5 and his doesn't do it so I wasn't sure if it was normal or not. Believe me, the last thing I want is to have to get another replacement from Apple. I already got this one unlocked today and I had the original one I bought unlocked too, so it's not like I want to keep waiting for replacements and paying to get them unlocked.

Thanks to everyone for responding. If this is normal, I'm fine with it.
