My retina macbook decided to die today. All I get is question mark folder and can't boot in recovery or get to choose boot disk. I made a bootable recovery disk and was able to start up disk utility but my SSD wasn't found. Is there a way for me to try and recover data before having apple send away for a new logic board? With the SSD soldered to the logic board I don't know how to try and recover data. Thanks!

May be worth trying the diagnostic boot (D) to see what it comes up with. Otherwise, booting from a secondary source and checking would be my only advice; and you're saying the system simply doesn't see the drive.

With the SSD built into the logic board I believe your only recourse is to restore from your backups.
