I have a 512gb base tMBP which I like however, I can't help but feel that it's not value for money.

I can get 16 rMB M5 512gb new with 3 year Apple care for £480 less than the above machine cost me.

I'm going round and round and cannot decide what to do.

At the moment I'm portable only but may decide to buy an external monitor and have a semi desk setup in the coming months.

What are the pros and cons of both? I do like the design of the rMB.

In your case - with 2014 rMBP I would not buy a new one. However, the difference is mainly power, display, battery and TouchBar. If you don' t need extra power and don't like TouchBar - buy M5 one.

Thanks for your reply. I actually sold the 14 rMBP ahead of the announcement in order to get the best price for it.
