rMB Time Machine Backups take forever

I am trying to do a time machine backup for my rMB as I want to switch back to a rMBP but it's taking extremely long. 2gb out of 38gb have been transferred in the last 4 hours or so.

I i am using the USB-C to HMDI/USB adapter and a LaCie external drive with its own power supply.

Is this normal? Is the adapter slowing things down and is there any way to speed it up? I can't wait 2 days for the backup to complete.

It is not normal, I use the same adapted and the backup is fast enough. 2 gig should take a couple of minutes. Maybe change the sub cable?

Changed the adapter but got the same result
