I had a rMBP 13" and was always impressed by the battery life (11 hours or more by doing web and so on). upgraded to the 15, not so good -- only 6 hours by doing the same tasks.. but in system profile it says the battery is healthy... so i tried cmd+opt+P+R to reset the nvram and hope it will resolve the problem.
so before I reset it, the battery indicator shows 5 hrs and plus remaining with about 80%+ juice left. after i reset it, it went down to 3 hrs or so with the same amount of battery left... what the hell?
I can only explain it by thinking the reset messed up the battery indicator, which somehow relies on a chip inside. So I did some search and apple.com has an article on how to calibrate the battery. I started to charge the battery and i saw something funny going on - after a while, the battery indicator says it is 100% and the light on the adapter is green. But system profile says it is still charging, the full capacity is 84XX. I let it charge overnight per apple.com article (which is for mavrick by the way). In the morning, the full capacity of the battery now is 8500.
So now I am letting it drain. Per apple website article. the battery needs to drain for another 5+ hours after it went out and to sleep. I guess thats how it discharges completely....
Still don;t know how it works. the article i mentioned above is from this page

it seems there is no need to calibrate the batteries for rmbp...
anyone knows how it works? should I even reset the smc? Is 6 hr on a normal use normal? or i am asking too much?
