I've got a 2012 rMBP with a GTX 960 attached via a thunderbolt enclosure - wanted to be able to get 4k x 60Hz which the built in gpu can't support. Once I hacked the kext's things work fairly well -- except if the display is attached while booting, the progress bar will freeze around ~60%. Hard resetting and unhooking the display works fine -- once OSX is up I can reattach the display and work fine.

I've been living with this for a while, but was curious if it happens to others and/or there is a better workaround.
