So I recently purchased a $.99 keyboard cover from Amazon:

http://www.amazon.com/TopCase®-Transparent-TPU-Keyboard-TOPCASE®/dp/B008454IWY/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1346635096&sr=8-2&keywords=retina+keyboard+cover

I have noticed that the cover had sort of a raised tab on the letters "f" and "j", maybe as a guide for touch typists. I was gone for the past two days and hid the rMBP in between clothes inside a drawer.

When I got back today, I saw two dusty marks on my screen which was caused byt the two mentioned tabs on the keyboard cover. The mark came off easily but I am worried about any further damage it can cause in the future.

Any of you guys have noticed this on your rMBP and keyboard covers?

Are you sure that you have it aligned properly? If it's designed for the rMBP then it shouldn't really be giving you problems - unless one dollar is cheap for a keyboard cover (never owned one) and you got what you paid for unfortunately.

This is normal for ALL MacBook keyboard covers. The laptop is designed to close with the keyboard close to the screen so that they can have as much space as possible inside. Adding the cover adds space between the keyboard and screen, so the cover will always be touching the machine. I only use mine when I have the laptop open.

My keyboard cover is not hitting the screen on the rMBP. It's the moshi one. But on my MBA with the moshi cover it touches and it is really annoying!

Yes, it was aligned properly. Is the gap between the keyboard and screen smaller compared to a cMBP?

I am unsure, does not seem like a proper cover to me though, perhaps too thick in certain spots as you have described.

.99? I didn't think it was possible to sell something that cheap. You must be from Europe. We can't be bothered with that in America.

i bought one cheap for around 80cents and it yes it hits the screen when is covered.
so i spent 5 dollars and buy another one, works flawless

I would really not recommend these covers if they hit the screen.

The titanium powerbooks were notorious for having "bright spots" on the screen, caused by the keyboard pressing against the screen when the laptop was closed.

I mean, really. The MacBook Pro is a tool. Do you really care if the keyboard gets shiny after several years?

Moshi cover touches my screen. I think most are going to touch the screen unless you get a cover that is thinner by chance or if the keyboard on your Mac is lower than others.

tbh if its only a 99c cover then maybe u should invest in a slightly more expensive one?

got this one:
http://www.amazon.com/UPPERCASE-Ult...46694878&sr=8-1&keywords=macbook+air+keyboard

notice i got the MacBook Air version. it fits the rMBP just fine. i figured since rMBP has a shallower keyboard profile, it would work well. no issues with screen touching so far.

i used to have a 13" MBP with a Moshi Guard. everytime i use it, after the lid is closed, i would get smudge marks. rMBP works just fine with the guard i mentioned tho

I just ordered one of those to use to keep my keys looking good. Will take it off when closing the lid. I plan to get a radtech screensaver for use when the lid is closed. To the OP, Have you looked into a radtech screensaver?

I tried a different cover which is also .99¢. It doesn't touch the screen of my rMBP. No marks of any kind left on the screen. Maybe everyone has a dirty key board cover?
